Upper Newport Bay Shoreline Ramble

Trade the campus quad for tidal water and shorebirds on a breezy loop through the bay's nature reserve and a quiet beach cove.
Head south from campus toward the water for a change of scenery. Start with a stroll through a nature park, then follow the ecological reserve's paths along the upper bay where herons and egrets work the mudflats, and finish by dipping your toes near the water at a small beach cove before heading back.
The stops
-
1
Harbor View Nature Park
Park here first — shaded paths make a nice warm-up walk before the open bay trail.
-
2
Upper Newport Bay Ecological Reserve
Main event: follow the reserve's bayfront trail, bring binoculars if you have them, and watch your footing on soft dirt sections.
-
3
North Star Beach
Short detour to the water's edge to cool off and watch the tide — good spot to sit and recharge before driving back.
